Painting & Blasting
Protective coatings and surface preparation
RP Valves’ industrial blasting and coatings division operates from a facility at our UK headquarters, giving us complete control over orders from start to finish – all under one roof.
Preparation
All valves and associated equipment are fully prepared prior to blasting. Specific blasting tape is applied to all critical areas including ends, stem, threads and gland areas to prevent damage and the ingress of blasting shot.
Blasting
Shot blasting is carried out in a large housed unit which recycles the blast media. Unless specifically requested otherwise, all products are shot blasted to ISO 8501-1 2 1⁄2 using aluminium oxide shot, resulting in a profile finish of between 40 and 100 microns.
Painting
Paint is applied by wet coat system, from primer only through to multi-coat finishes in accordance with customers’ specifications. Four dry-back spray booths, each with their own extraction, provide quick, seamless production times between each coat.
Inspection and calibration
Inspection is carried out after shot blasting using a calibrated surface profile gauge, with humidity, temperature and dew point monitored throughout. Thickness is measured after each coat using a calibrated DFT gauge, with supplementary paint tests available on request, such as; abrasive salt, air-quality, soluble surface salt, surface dust, MEK, amine blush, adhesion pull-off, and holiday test.
Final inspection and dispatch
Each valve is de-masked and a paint report issued detailing all processes and consumables used. Third-party inspection witnessing is available on request. Every finished product is carefully wrapped and packed to ensure it arrives in pristine condition.
Quick turnaround times
Our painting and blasting enables quick turnaround times and meets customers’ delivery requirements, and is part of our ‘one-stop shop’ in-house services covering valve supply, modification, pressure testing, blasting and coating for sizes from ¼” to 48”.
